Journey to the Stars

I used to listen to 60's surfer music when I was a kid. One song that I liked was by the Ventures, Journey to the Stars. I was a hard-core Trekkie in those days and liked watching TV programs like Twilight Zone and Outer Limits.

So what is my point in taking you on a little nostaltic journey down memory lane? There are so many undeniable changes in the world since those days in sixties and seventies that it is surreal to look back at what was.

I remember being glued to my television set on that Sunday afternoon in July to watch the Apollo 11 Space Mission. On July 20, 1969, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were first to set foot on the moon. So it will be 40 years since that historic event. I, for one, feel that the whole space program was an amazing feat for mankind's technological achievement.

Considering all the variables and seeing the event from a new perspective against today's technological advances, it almost seems like we were in a prehistoric age.

Undoubtedly, I do feel that the boldness to take 'small step for man, and a giant step for mankind' was undeniably a prophetic statement. It truly was a bold leap of faith and one that I know inspred us to think larger, think boler and think that anything is possible.

It ushered in an era where we began to delve deeper and deeper into astrophysics and Astronomy. I know that it inspired some of the greatest thinkers of our age. Certainly Stephen Hawking and his great theoretical mind had been inspired by that one giant step for mankind.

So as we look at the anniversary of this great step in our human history and what unprecedented advancements in our technology, our understanding and certainly in making our world conceptually smaller so that we have the opportunity to gain a much more unified picture of ourselves. It was a journey into the stars that took on a giant step for mankind.
