Let there be light...

I have been exploring the one constant in our lives...light. I don't know how often we actually think about the properties of light and how much it is a part of everything.

We are beings of light. To comprehend this, it is important to understand what light is. But to fully understand that, it is best to explore some properties of light and how it behaves in certain circumstances. I am sure we could all agree that light travels fastest in a vacuum. The speed of light in vacuum has been measured to be 300 million meters per second. This is the fastest that anything has been observed to move.

At that speed it would take light a mere one tenth of a second to circumvent the globe. When light enters any material, it slows down. The amount that it slows down depends on the nature of the material. The more dense the material, the slower the speed light. For example, in water, light is approximately 30% slower than in vacuum, while in glass it is 50% slower. In diamond, one of of the most dense material known, light travels at less than 150 million meters per second.

Remarkably, in the past year research scientists at MIT have been able to make microscopic quantities of a very strange, and very dense state of matter in which the speed of light is (theoretically) calculated to be just a few meters per second. This slowing down of light plays an important role in how we interpret refraction.
Just putting together

So what is the purpose of this science lesson on light? I am sure we have all participated in those Grade 7 science experiments where we learned what happens to light, reflection, refraction, (including internal reflection and dispersion) diffraction and interference. I am sure we looked at the way a rainbow is formed as light enters droplets of water. It continues to fascinate me just how much light is a part of everything and we still are exploring the theories of its source.

Further exploration takes us into the way in which light travels. Initially Newton had theorized it was a series of particles. We now more fully comprhend its value in terms of waves.

What interests me, is the effect this has on our body, mind and soul. We are comprised of light. We interact with light. The rate at which light travels in, around and through us is what I am most intrigued with. What is the rate of absorbsion, refraction reflection, diffusion, dispersion and interference of light when it is applied to the individual.

What does the very substance of a thought have to do with creating a vibrational energy field or a wave pattern that sets everything in motion to manifist into our reality. It is not until light actually interacts with everything that it truly becomes a part of our tangible reality. But what about all the intangibles. What about all that we cannot see due to the transparency of what light waves are being absorbed?

But more to the point, it is our divine nature to want to seek the truth and find the purity and clarity of our own individual worth. I sometimes think as we explore this, we start to doubt that there is that pure energy, white light--comprising of all the colours of the light spectrum...with a bandwidth that is infinite...If even one of the atoms in our cells split, the explosion would likely blow up the entire world! I am not sure of the actual facts regarding this, but it would be catacalysmic.

Okay, so I have very lightly (pun intented) skimmed over the surface of light properties and raised a few questions as to what effect light has on us individually. It is a difficult concept to actually theoretically esplore in a few short paragraphs, but I do hope it provokes a few waves of thought...that will in and of itself, be a pattern of light that could manifest some amazing results for each of us individually and collectively.

Journey to the Stars

I used to listen to 60's surfer music when I was a kid. One song that I liked was by the Ventures, Journey to the Stars. I was a hard-core Trekkie in those days and liked watching TV programs like Twilight Zone and Outer Limits.

So what is my point in taking you on a little nostaltic journey down memory lane? There are so many undeniable changes in the world since those days in sixties and seventies that it is surreal to look back at what was.

I remember being glued to my television set on that Sunday afternoon in July to watch the Apollo 11 Space Mission. On July 20, 1969, Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were first to set foot on the moon. So it will be 40 years since that historic event. I, for one, feel that the whole space program was an amazing feat for mankind's technological achievement.

Considering all the variables and seeing the event from a new perspective against today's technological advances, it almost seems like we were in a prehistoric age.

Undoubtedly, I do feel that the boldness to take 'small step for man, and a giant step for mankind' was undeniably a prophetic statement. It truly was a bold leap of faith and one that I know inspred us to think larger, think boler and think that anything is possible.

It ushered in an era where we began to delve deeper and deeper into astrophysics and Astronomy. I know that it inspired some of the greatest thinkers of our age. Certainly Stephen Hawking and his great theoretical mind had been inspired by that one giant step for mankind.

So as we look at the anniversary of this great step in our human history and what unprecedented advancements in our technology, our understanding and certainly in making our world conceptually smaller so that we have the opportunity to gain a much more unified picture of ourselves. It was a journey into the stars that took on a giant step for mankind.

String Theories-Ley-Lines and and the power of the universe

  • Have you ever wished that you could FEEL your connection to the universe rather than just visualize it? The mysteries of the universe is a vast topic for exploration. As in Hamlet, to go to that ‘undiscovered country’ or like Star Trek, ‘to boldly go where no man has gone before.”

Delving deeper into the quantum physics and astro-physics has developed some astonishing theories. The most important is that everything that is, science can be defined by mathematical equations and geometry. Astro-physicicst Michio Kaku says he looks at things in terms of equations. Mass, volume, energy and all the dimensions and inter-dimensions that we cannot see, but exist. A Theory of Everything?

The superstring theory can explain the mysterious quantum laws of sub-atomic physics by postulating that sub-atomic particles are really just resonances or vibrations of a tiny string. The vibrations of a violin string correspond to musical notes; likewise the vibrations of a superstring correspond to the particles found in nature. The universe is then a symphony of vibrating strings. An added bonus is that, as a string moves in time, it warps the fabric of space around it, producing black holes, wormholes, and other exotic solutions of Einstein’s equations. Thus, in one stroke, the superstring theory unites both the theory of Einstein and quantum physics into one coherent, compelling picture.

So as we explore that superstring theory, the concept that earth itself is connected with its own grid of geometric strings that somehow maintain the gravitational pull. These can be defined as ley lines or energy lines within the Earth’s crust. Ley lines, or Leys, are alignments of ancient sites stretching across the landscape. Ancient sites or holy places may be situated in a straight line ranging from one or two to several miles in length. A ley may be identified simply by an aligned placing of marker sites, or it might be visible on the ground for all or part of its length by the remnants of an old straight track.

Ley Lines were 're-discovered' on 30 June 1921 by Alfred Watkins(1855-1935), a locally well-known and respected Herefordshire businessman, who while looking at a map for features of interest noticed a straight line that passed over hill tops through various points of interest, all of which were ancient. At the time of his discovery, Watkins had no theory about alignments but on that June afternoon saw "in a flash" a whole pattern of lines stretching across the landscape. Four years later, in 1925, he described his vision in a book he titled The Old Straight Track.

But to put this into perspective with String Theory, I feel that there is a geometrical patterning that is elemental to the design of our earth and universe. Leonardo Da Vinci was passionate about geometry. Some biographers say it was his first love and it became evident in his work as an engineer, artist, and inventor. He began to unravel the mysteries of the universe—even the anatomy of our bodies.

It may be a stretch to connect String Theory to the geometrical Ley Lines that exist in the make up of our Earth’s crust. Some new age theorists have done a lot of research on a geometric pattern they call the Flower of Life. It is a pattern of 19 circles that are interconnected and in a three-dimensional sphere, form a complex series of geometrical designs of polyhedrons. They claim this sacred geometry, is based on ancient esoteric teachings given around the world for thousands of years. These teachings, based on sacred geometry, illustrate for the left brain how there is truly only one consciousness, one spirit, one God, and that we are all part of that oneness. The Flower of Life is a universal template with many lenses. When placed over the face of a common or ordinary circle or sphere, the Flower of Life maps a window into the unity of infinity and turns the ordinary into a revelation of the extraordinary.

Looking into the window of the Flower of Life challenges us to unify our mind, heart, and spirit. When we can truly see all life woven so intimately, we strengthen the embrace of the divine in our lives and we can transform our world through the vision of universal unity.

This energy created by combining the dimensions of these patterns can supposedly integrate the left brain (mind) and the right brain (heart/feeling/intuition) into a fluid understanding of the cosmos that is not only intellectually understood but also tangibly experienced. These teachings help inspire individuals to remember who they really are and to find the courage to expand beyond their limited views of themselves. Each human has a unique talent which, when discovered, nurtured, and truly lived, changes our own personal world. By living that pure true self beyond our limited beliefs, we slowly change the world around us into an experience of higher intention, greater freedom and possibility.

So what does any of this have to do with the practical application of our every day lives? Well back in early 2003 I somehow found myself fascinated with the concept of Ley Lines. I realized that where there were intersections in these lines, ancient civilizations build healing structures, like Stonehenge. When I looked into this further, I coincidentally became acauinted with someone who lived at an origin point of a Ley Line. He knew nothing of this coincidence, but it was something I was drawn to. The very site of his home was one of the origin points in West Seattle. There had been a mapping of the ley lines of the area. The Seattle Arts Commission gave $5,000 to a group of New Age dowsers, the Geo Group, to do a ley line map of Seattle. Photographs of the result, which looks like a defaced satellite photo of the Seattle area, can be purchased for $7.00 from the group. It proudly proclaims that the "project made Seattle the first city on Earth to balance and tune its ley-line system." The Arts Commission has been criticized by skeptical citizens for funding a New Age, pagan sect, but the artwork continues to be displayed on a rotating basis in city-owned buildings within Seattle.

Citizens had every right to be skeptical. Here is what the Geo Group has to say about their project:

The vision of the Seattle Ley-Line Project is to heal the Earth energies within the Seattle city limits by identifying ley-line power centers in Seattle, neutralizing negative energies and then amplifying the positive potential of the ley-line power centers. We believe the result will be a decrease in disease and anxiety, an increased sense of wholeness and well-being and the achievement of Seattle's potential as a center of power.

I feel the geometry of the flower of life and ley lines are somehow connected as a blueprint for the way our earth is constructed.

Poetry--the spontaneous overflow of ideas

Intoxicating...
(another form of sonnet xii)

Blue aquatic ocean breeze breaks along the tide
Open your blown billow sails let wind collide
Seeing those distant stars with pinpoint clarity
Escape into that universal magnetic polarity
Tomorrow that murmuring celestial moon rises
Casting covert shadows with intrigue surprises
Beneath the velvet down crescent indigo sky
Dancing patterns elevate where constellations lie
Feeling drawn into cosmic consummate intricacy
Tracing delicate patterns with enticing intimacy
Blown by ocean’s tumbling abandon intoxication
Breathe in the incredulous fire of your invitation
Bent beside that geologic seductive tide of elation
Surrender euphoric desire with your invocation

Surrender

looking past the hour glass
across the sands of time
forgive me if I succumb
with the blush and flush
of sweet red wine
or stumble across barriers
of haphazard sentences

where was I when you turned
to glance across that dance floor
finding my words stuck
in the rhythm of sliding doors
I attempt an awkward phrase
that runs like a faucet
cranked open all the way

giddy with elation I
feel less terrified as
your words embrace me
from behind and hold me
suspended as your soft-spoken
voice gently caresses
the taut strings of apprehension
and plays unspoken music
that sings inside my soul

Hapazard Words that Collide
Into Your Reflection. . .

Smearing the steam mirror of your breath
an image distorts through the condensation
Pressing my hand firmly against the glass
Hoping to find you behind the silver lining
Holding out the possibility your face
Will appear once more as I erase
my wish upon that falling star
Sometimes I see you there and
You shine right back at me
through the broken clouds
I trace the outlines of your face
My heart stops to linger so close
But yet so faraway from you
I hold out the possibility
I will meet you out there
somewhere in my dreams
at night I close my eyes
so I might find you
right beside me

How to Get What You Want

I recently listened to an interview with Helene Hadsell. She is a 83 year-old woman who has won every contest she has entered and has consciously made the decisions expect what she has selected. So this is her formula:

SELECT: Decide what it is you want
PROJECT: Visualize and put your wish out into the universe.
EXPECT: Expect that you WILL receive what you are wanting without exepetion! You have already received it, so wait for it to manifest.
COLLECT: Let it manifest and collect what it is you have selected, projected and expected.

The main key to receiving what you want is to recognize that thoughts are energy and all the energy we put into worrying will bring more worry. If we create the vibrational energy that we do receive what we have decided upon and that it is like placing an order from a catalogue. Then we can expect it to manifest.

Here's the thing: I thing most of us are skeptical with fear and doubt and it is difficult to re-program our thinking to expect more...

Moving Forward Away From Fear

What is your greatest fear?

Most people might come up with a few of the standard inevitable answers like experiencing some kind of horrifying event like murder, maiming, mutilation...which usually implies they fear being a victim to someone else.

But what most people truly fear... is themselves. It is those disabling thoughts that limit our own potential.

For as long as I can remember, I have been had these disabling thoughts of doubt and disability. I have second guessed my own potenial and my own dreams. I had lofty dreams. Dreams that I could become someone that could make a difference.

I didn't want to be just an ordinary person with an ordinary life with ordinary things to define my existence. I wanted to make a difference. So I felt I had purpose. That I was special in some way. However, It became clear to me that when I shared my dreams of becoming a writer, or an artist, or an actor...those ideals were met with condescending patronization.

I know most of our generation has had this experience. Being told by someone who has credibility in our lives that we cannot achieve what we want. They then go about pointing us in a direction that they feel is more realistic, productive or based on their own limitations or experience.

These well-meaning words of wisdom and guidance about who and what we SHOULD become is based on fear that we might fail. But what is failure? Is it just the process of the journey? Practising our goals until they become firmly patterned in our experience.

So practise makes perfect. Yes, it does. Visualize your goals being fulfulled. Practise the way it will make you feel to achieve what you dream about. Set those thoughts in motion and move forward.

It is up to us to decide if we believe the limiting labels others have for us or move forward practising our own belief of our own dreams and bring into our existence those things we want.

What can we do...as ordinary people...to help facilitate a greener future? A future that will include sustainablitly and growth for our generation, our children's generation and for all the future generations to come? I think the answer lies in how we think. Yes, our thoughts are what we need to address. Do we spend a majority of our time thinking about how we can aquire new things and how we are going to pay our bills, our mortgage?

I think...there's that word again...that if we started to shift our thoughts from what we think we need to what we know we want...then I think we can begin to identify how we can change the future sustainability for our own lives. It is about finding the joy, seeing the world with eyes of compassion and love. The world is a living breathing system of life.

If we started to view our own footprint on the planet in terms of each choice we make, conciously or unconsciously. If we became more aware of the ways that either added harm or brought health and restoration, I think we could easily define how much impact we can make, just by making a few small changes in how we preserve/conserve energy, the choices we make and the ways we think. Thinking in terms of cradle to cradle...instead of cradle to grave. Think in terms of renewable energy instead of fossil fuels that are rapidly being consumed. Think in terms of how to redesign our own systems so that they may replicate the systems of nature.

It doesn't take much to start to re-create our own footprint so that it has less impact. It takes thinking. Consciously thinking about the changes we can make to add to the mosaic of changes happening all over the planet...and add our own signature to that change.
